For the past few years, we’ve somehow found ourselves in Las Vegas over Chinese New Year. We weren’t aware of what a grand showing that Sin City puts on for the “circle of animals.” The first time, it was the Year of the Dragon.
In 2013, we were able to be there for the Year of the Snake, which is the sign that Mark and I share. We made sure to bring back lots of trinkets with snakes, including the coffee mugs we drink from daily.
This year, 2015, celebrated the Year of the Goat (also referred to as the sheep or ram). Each of the casinos are adorned in Chinese lanterns and each has some type of display for the Zodiac symbol. But, I’ve learned that the Venetian Hotel puts on the grandest display, so I made sure to make a special trip to the “Grand Canals.” The hotel’s large foyer is decorated form top to bottom and they also include kiosks that provide more information.
Chinese commonly regard sheep as an auspicious animal, and the Year of the Sheep, therefore, heralds a year of promise and prosperity
